Charlie Durham
Charles Durham has served as our pastor and head of staff since 1989. A native of Hot Springs, Arkansas, Charlie received his degrees in Greek and Philosophy at Rhodes College and his Doctor of Ministry degree from Union Theological Seminary in Virginia where he also served as Assistant to the president. He served as pastor of the Third Presbyterian Church of Norfolk, Virginia for five years, then First Presbyterian Church of Newton, NC for 7 years before being called to Tuscaloosa.
As the "senior" downtown pastor, Charlie is involved in many aspects of community life. His leisure time includes daily early morning walks, furniture crafting, sailing and water sports, snow skiing and playing with his grandson, Durham Davis.
His wife Sandy is an Elder, choir member, handbell ringer, young adult Sunday school teacher, LOGOS team leader and Circle teacher. She is employed by a local accounting firm. Their older daughter, Rev. Erica Durham, is the Outreach Reference Librarian at Columbia Theological Seminary in Decatur, Georgia, her alma mater. Younger daughter Kristen Durham, the proud mother of son Durham Davis, is the Assistant Director of Membership and Fitness Services at the University of Alabama.
